What I Wore Today: 30th May '14

Friday, 30 May 2014

Today I made the most of the last few days of sunny weather before winter well and truly sets in and wore a dress! It's one I found in a thrift shop (as is my pretty pink hand-knitted cardigan - such a good find!).

I also wore my favourite pair of shoes, my YRU Qozmo platforms. They make me nice and tall, which is absolutely wonderful! I think I'll have to buy them in black too, I totally adore them.

One of my current obsessions is also wrapped around my neck... tattoo chokers! I love anything fashion-related that has a hint of 1990's nostalgia <3 The black and rainbow ones I'm wearing here are from Tibbs & Bones.

'Flourish'

Thursday, 29 May 2014

This garment is one that I've made for a design class at university recently. I have to present it on Friday, so I got it all finished and photographed today! :)

The fake grass bustier-piece represents moss... if time permitted my design would have had a bustier made of rubber and lined with cotton with moss cultivated onto it (however moss takes months to grow, so that was slightly impossible...). My aim in creating this concept garment was to design a piece of clothing that is less wasteful than the current norm in the fashion world. If a person wears an item of clothing many times they may tire of it, and then dispose of it. By having a dress that has living, growing embellishments, it enables a single garment to change and show many different looks.

The rest of the garment also reflects my original idea behind this project, which was exploring the relationship between humanity and nature. Other aspects of the garment are made from artificial elements that hark back to nature... voluminous tulle and organza is reminiscent of a shrub branching out, and artificial flowers capture the beauty of real blossoms. Dressing a figure in this medley of influences drawn from nature represents the close, side-by-side existence of humanity and the natural world.

Hello There Blogspot !

I've finally jumped on the Blogspot bandwagon after having a tumblr blog (an-artful-life.tumblr.com) for a few years.

I thought that having this blog would be a nice contrast to my tumblr, which is mainly a collection of images/text/etc that I draw inspiration from. This blog will be more of a personal one, chronicling interesting things I'm up to, quirky and cool things I buy/find/create, as well as an abundance of posts relating to fashion (seeing as that is my field of study, and a passion of mine!)

So stay tuned for posts that you shall hopefully find interesting, and feel free to send any feedback my way while I get used to this new style of blogging! :)
